Are you passionate about manga? Passionate enough to pursue a PhD? In June 2011, Kyoto Seika University announced a groundbreaking doctoral program for manga, set to launch in April 2012. This private university is known for its strong focus on art research. Notably, it is the only Japanese university to join CULUMUS, an international art and design education network.
Pioneering Comics Education
While many Japanese institutions offer manga courses, Kyoto Seika University is the first to offer both master’s and doctoral degrees in the subject. The program boasts a faculty of industry professionals, including comic artists, cartoonists, and animation directors. Students can choose from four majors: story, cartoon, animation, and production. All majors fall under art, design, and manga.
Furthermore, Kyoto Seika University offers an international student exchange program. This is ideal for students seeking to broaden their horizons.
